Lieutenant R H Brodie, 3rd Battalion, The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), attached to 1st Battalion, Nery, 1 September 1914

Brodie is shown with a German horse of the 9th Uhlans that his unit captured at the Battle of Nery, an engagement fought during the Retreat from Mons. The lieutenant was wounded during the morning of 25 October 1914 whilst on reconnaissance. He later served as his battalion's transport officer and was mentioned in despatches in November 1914 and February 1915.
