The 18th Hussars arrived in Natal, South Africa, for garrison duties in 1898. The following year the Boer War broke out and the regiment subsequently served for its duration with 4th Cavalry Brigade, taking part in the relief of Ladysmith and the anti-guerilla operations towards the end of the campaign.
From a collection of 26 negatives and two sheets of captions collected by Sgt Arthur George Harrington DCM, 1st Bn The King's Royal Rifle Corps.
