'An aspect of Soissons with the martyred Cathedral in the background', 9 October 1918

Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1918.

Soissons, located on the Aisne River, was captured by the Germans on 29 May 1918 and later liberated by the Allies on 2 August 1918. The town was severely damaged by artillery bombardments on both occasions.
