Member's badge, Order of the British Empire (MBE), Joan Henderson, 1953
Joan Henderson served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during the World War Two (1939-1945). Immediately after her training, she was sent to liaise with Free French staff officers because of her French language skills. After the War, she spent two years with the War Office before enrolling at the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC) Staff College in Frimley. In 1964, she was appointed Director of the WRAC until 1967.
