Remembrance service, Basra War Memorial, Iraq, 2003
Digital photograph by Corporal Dave Liddle, Royal Logistic Corps, Operation TELIC, Iraq (2003-2011), 2003.
Buglers from the Light Infantry sound the Last Post. The bugler in the foreground wears a poppy on his breast pocket.
Some three hundred service personnel, representing all units serving in Iraq, attended the service on 9 November 2003. The Basra War Memorial, designed by Edward Warren, commemorates over 40,500 Commonwealth service personnel who died in the operations in Mesopotamia from Autumn 1914 to August 1921. It was unveiled in March 1929 in the naval dockyard at Maqil but was later moved to a location outside Basra by the Saddam Hussein regime.
From a CD of photographs of Operation TELIC 2, 22 September to 26 November 2003.
