Saxon armoured personnel carrier in Cyprus, 2002

The Saxon wheeled armoured personnel carrier was developed for the British Army use in Germany. It came into service in the early 1980s as a fast moving troop carrier but versions were also used as ambulances and in riot control. The vehicle left British service in 2005/2006. In response to the news that some Saxons were being transferred to the Ukraine in 2015, former Chief of the General Staff, Sir Richard Dannat was quoted in the 'Daily Telegraph' as saying, 'They are quite useless, semi-armoured lorries that should be nowhere near anyone's front line'.
