Cap badge, Royal Tank Regiment, Trooper Ralph Hooper, 1940 (c)

World War One tank facing left, within wreath, surmounted by crown, with motto, 'Fear Naught', on scroll below.

The early badges of the Tank Corps were of a similar design but with the World War One tank facing right. This was altered to avoid the impression of a tank in retreat.

Trooper Ralph Hooper of the Royal Tank Regiment went on to join No 5 Commando, Army Commandos. The unit participated in raids on German occupied France in 1941, took part in the capture of Madagascar from Vichy French forces and then was transferred to India in 1943. No 5 Commando fought in the Arakan campaign in Burma in 1944 and continued to operate against the Japanese in the Far East until the end of the War.
