M1 Abrams main battle tank, 1991

Photograph by Lieutenant J W Greenacre, 1 Squadron, Royal Corps of Transport, Gulf War (1990-1991), 1991

During the Gulf War Coalition tanks could engage and destroy outdated Iraqi tanks like the T-55 and T-62 from more than twice the distance that the latter could engage. The M1 Abrams entered American service in 1980 and upgraded versions of the tank remain in use today.
