A British base in Helmand Province, 2006
Photograph, Afghanistan (2001-2014), 2006.
This view from an aircraft demonstrates the bleak terrain of Helmand. There were few tarmac roads other than Route One, the key transport route across the province. Air supply was therefore essential. Temperatures were extreme, falling to -15C in winter and rising to +45C in summer.
Digital photograph from a DVD containing 110 digital images, movie clips, a video clip and a slide presentation. Associated with D (TAMANDU) Company Royal Gurkha Rifles.
