Corporal Ethan Fagon came to the United Kingdom from Jamaica in 1961. He served for 22 years with the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment and its predecessor. His world-wide service career included garrison duty in Cyprus and multiple tours of Northern Ireland at the height of the conflict known as the 'Troubles'.
In 1969 Fagon was a member of a team drawn from 9 Platoon, C Company, which won the Grierson Shield, Infantry Platoon Challenge Competition. This prestigious event involved the firing of all the platoon weapons, a night ambush and fitness and stamina tests. This photograph shows him being presented with a tankard trophy by General Sir Michael Carver.
