A wheelbarrow in the bucket of a JCB being used to deal with a suspect device on a double-decker bus, Omagh, 1975
Photograph, Northern Ireland (1969-2007), 1975.
Developed from an initial design in 1972, the 'Wheelbarrow' remote control vehicle helped Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operators to render devices safe in the Northern Ireland conflict. Crucially, this model provided a means to search for and examine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from a distance using onboard cameras.
One of seven copy photographs showing 321 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, at work in Omagh, 1975.
