Number 9 from a series of nine landscape views of the battlefield of Waterloo, painted shortly after the decisive battle.
A view of the loop-holed walls of the Chateau de Hougoumont, with human remains in the foreground. The chateau was a strongpoint in the Allied line during the Battle of Waterloo and was the site of bitter fighting throughout the 18 June 1815.
