'Lend Your Strong Right Arm to your Country Enlist Now', 1915 (c)

Recruiting poster published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee. Poster No. 26. Printed by H and C Graham Limited.

Propaganda posters played an important role in encouraging people to support the war. In 1914 Britain had a small professional army. As the First World War progressed more men were needed. By December 1915, over two million men had joined up. Propaganda posters were put up all over the country to persuade them to enlist. Women were also recruited for munitions work and nursing.
