An EOD operator is helped into a protective bomb suit, Iraq, 2006 (c)

Digital photograph, Operation TELIC (2003-2011), 2006 (c).

The bomb or blast suit is designed to protect the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operator as he approaches an explosive device. The material and armour plating is built to withstand fragments, blast waves and burns.

Its size and weight can restrict the operator's movements and visibility. The hot climate of Iraq made wearing the suit extremely uncomfortable and tiring.
