The 1st Military Working Dog Regiment is part of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and plays a vital role in counter-insurgency and the detection of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Afghanistan. The Arms and Explosives Search (AES) dogs and their handlers help clear routes, buildings and vehicles and guard and patrol key installations to assist and enhance security.
