Operation HERRICK was the codename for British operations in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014. UK forces, as part of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), were part of a wider coalition of countries that formed the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The 5th Battalion, The Rifles participated in HERRICK XV (2011-2012) and HERRICK XX (2014) with each constituting an approximately 6 month long tour of duty in Afghanistan. 'Swift and Bold' is the motto of The Rifles.
