'Please knit now', 1945
Coloured lithograth poster, after Abram Games (1914-1996), 1945.
This poster was designed by Games to encourage women in the forces and at home to knit socks for British soldiers fighting in the Far East campaign.
Games had been promoted captain in 1942 with the title Official War Poster Artist and during the next four years produced around a hundred posters. Many were striking abstract images, but he always believed that such simple designs had the biggest impact on people.
From a collection of 45 posters from World War Two (1939-1945).
