Button, 4th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry, 1861-1877
White metal, large, circular button by Smith, Kemp and Wright, Birmingham, with the regimental number, '4', within French circle and dot, surrounded by a wreath.
The 4th Bengal Native Infantry was created as part of the reorganisation of the Indian Army after the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). It was formed from the 33rd Bengal Native Infantry which was successfully disarmed during the Mutiny. The regiment was renamed in 1890 as the 4th (Prince Albert Victor's) Bengal Infantry and the 4th (Prince Albert Victor's) Rajputs in 1897.
