Cap badge, Coorg and Mysore Rifles, 1933-1947

The Coorg and Mysore Rifles was a volunteer unit formed in southern India on 21 November 1884, with its headquarters at Mercara (Madikeri). The cap badge is formed of a buffalo's horned head, with a crown above and a scroll below, bearing the unit's name.

Originally formed from the Bangalore Rifle Volunteers, the Coorg and Mysore Rifles amalgamated with the Bangalore Rifles in 1917, to form the 6th Bangalore Coorg and Mysore Battalion. In 1908, according to the Imperial Gazetteer of Mysore and Coorg, the unit had a strength of 245. Designated the Bangalore Battalion from 1 October 1920 the unit once again became a separate entity in 1933.
