Prosthetic eyes, 2013
The National Artificial Eye Service provides mould eye prostheses for service personnel returning from Afghanistan with facial injuries as a result of Improvised Explosive Device blasts.
Prostheses are made from synthetic resin and are custom made to match the unique shape and colour of the patient's natural eye. This is the preferred artificial eye for most wearers.
Military surgeons work to restore appearance and function following traumatic facial injury. These sophisticated prosthetics were designed for injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan (2001-2014).
