'B' Squadron, 28th Light Cavalry, 1918 (c)

Photograph, World War One, Persia (1914-1918), 1918 (c).

Despite Persia being neutral in the war, British and Russian troops occupied parts of the country. One British force formed a cordon along its eastern border against German and Turkish agents who were intent on encouraging anti-British unrest in Afghanistan and on the North West Frontier of India.

The 28th Light Cavalry served in Persia from June 1915 until September 1918 when they moved north into Russian Transcaspia to bolster British interests and resist Bolshevik, German and Turkish influence in the region.

From an album of 156 photographs owned by 2/Lt Robert Francis Thomson, King's Own Scottish Borderers, attached to 28th Light Cavalry, 1915-1918.
