Coffee pot with lid, 'La Grande Guerre', 1919 (c)
Made by Lanternier and Company of Limoges, France. It is decorated with images by the artist Jacques Marie Gaston Onfroy de Breville, popularly known as 'Job'.
From a 12-piece porcelain coffee service, 'La Grande Guerre'. The pieces show British and French soldiers brewing and transporting tea or coffee on the front line during the World War One (1914-1918).
The coffee pot shows two British soldiers carrying a large metal water canteen on a pole while smoking pipes on one side and on the other, a French soldier carrying two water canteens or kettles. The soldiers walk through a muddy landscape with shattered trees and clouds of smoke. The lid is decorated with a laurel wreath and smoke clouds.
