Afghanistan Operational Service Medal with Operation HERRICK ribbon and Queen's Commendation emblem, 2013 (c)
Silver, circular medal, with, on the obverse, the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the inscription, 'Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fid. Def.'. On the reverse, the Union Flag within a circlet bearing the inscription, 'For Operational Service', on a compass design with four coronets: Royal, Naval, Mural and Astral. On the ribbon, a clasp bearing the title, 'Afghanistan' and a laurel leaf (Queen's Commendation).
The Afghanistan Operational Service Medal was introduced in January 2000 and was awarded for service specifically in Afghanistan (2001-2014). The ribbon is made up of a broad central red stripe, flanked each side by a stripe of royal blue and one of light blue, to represent the three services, with an outer stripe of light brown to reflect the landscape of Afghanistan.
