This World War One (1914-1918) portrait depicts Colour Sergeant Major Alexander Gibb of 2nd Battalion Princess Louise's (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) at a prisoner of war camp in Karlsruhe, Germany. Gibb later served as senior Warrant Officer Second Class in a party of British non-commissioned officers and men sent to Russia in 1916. He recalled that experience in a post-war interview by the Committee on the Treatment of British Prisoners of War. Fehn was a German artist.
