Shock pack filled with red solution, 2013
In Afghanistan (2001-2014) blood shock packs were used during the 'Golden Hour' treatment time frame on the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) helicopter and on arrival at a field hospital.
The MERT team used containers that kept blood products at a stable temperature, including plasma, which helped blood clot and red blood cells which were used to replace lost blood.
