Concrete blast wall sections, Iraq, 2009
Digital image by Corporal Adrian Harlen, 2009.
Concrete blast wall sections decorated with murals of 20th Armoured Brigade's armoured 'iron fist' insignia, Allenby Lines, Contingency Operating Base, Basra Air Station, Iraq, 2009.
These kind of defences were in common use in British Army bases in Iraq and Afghanistan and were designed to counter the threat from insurgent vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) attacks, using cars and trucks filled with explosives.
From a collection of photographs relating to Operation BROCKDALE, the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq in 2009.
