'Turnover tank' toy, 1931 (c)
This tinplate toy is based on a British World War One (1914-1918) tank, possibly a Mark IV. It was made by Louis Marx and Company Limited of Dudley, Worcestershire. This firm was set up in New York City in 1919 and started production in the United Kingdom in 1931, with its first British factory at Dudley. The company's British arm was taken over by Dunbee Cobex in 1967, but continued to make toys under the Louis Marx and Company name until 1976.
