5.56 mm NATO round for L2A2 (SA80 rifle), 1998

The SA80's 5.56 mm round was lighter than the 7.62 mm bullet fired by the Self-Loading Rifle, so soldiers could carry more ammunition. But its shorter range caused problems in open country like Iraq.
