Troops from 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment rest after a patrol in Basra, 8 April 2007

Digital photograph by Corporal Ian Forsyth, Army Photographer Royal Logistic Corps, Operation Telic (2003-2011), Iraq, 2007.

On 8 April 2007, the Shatt Al Arab Hotel (SAAH) Base in Basra was handed over to the Iraqi Army. This was part of the ongoing process of bringing about Iraqi control in the south of the country.

Troops from the 1st Staffordshire Regiment, part of the 19 Light Brigade deployment, were the largest contingent of British troops in the SAAH. They occupied the base from November 2006 until April 2007 when they moved to Basra Air Station for the remainder of their time in Iraq.

From a collection of 43 digital images.
