'Lobengula's daughter', 1890 (c)

The photograph depicts the youngest daughter of King Lobengula Khumalo (1833-1893), Princess Sigombe Khumalo. Her father was the second and last king of the Ndebele people (usually pronounced Matabele in English), who ruled over Matabeleland in what is now Western Zimbabwe. The photograph was taken in a studio by W Rausch in Bulawayo, the leading city of Matabeleland that was founded by Lobengula.
From a collection of 30 photographs relating to Rhodesia in the 1890s and the Matabele War.
