Military Cross medal group awarded to Corporal Mark Ward, Mercian Regiment, 2011

Corporal Ward was awarded the Military Cross for demonstrating exemplary gallantry and leadership during counter-insurgency operations in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2010. During a number of intense ambushes and fire-fights Ward's actions helped save lives, regain the initiative and defeat enemy fighters.

Corporal Mark Ward's medal group includes the following awards: Iraq Medal 2003-2011, Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012, Accumulated Campaign Service Medal 2011 and General Service Medal 1962-2007.
