'Domhnall' the Irish Wolfhound, mascot of the Irish Guards, 2016

Digital photograph by Kellie Shattock, 2016.

'Domhnall' is pictured on parade with the Irish Guards during Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Northern Ireland on 28 June 2016. The visit to Northern Ireland was part of the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations. Domhnall, meaning 'World Leader' in Gaelic, joined the Guards in 2012.

The first regimental mascot for the Irish Guards was appointed in 1902 and they have all been named after Irish High Kings or legendary chieftains. Domnall ua Néill was High King of Ireland from 956 to 980.

The Irish Guards is the only Guards regiment permitted to have a mascot leading the battalion on all major parades.
