Pony Major Corporal Mark Wilkinson, Royal Regiment of Scotland, with current and former mascots, 'Cruachan III' and 'Cruachan IV', 2015

Digital photograph by Mark Owens, 2015.

Shetland pony, Cruachan III, the Royal Regiment of Scotland's former mascot, receives the British Horse Society's Tarragon Trophy for 'equine personality', at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh. Cruachan III, formerly the mascot of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, retired, aged 23, in 2012. He was succeeded by Cruachan IV (pictured on the left). Cruachan III died in February 2018.

Ben Cruachan is a mountain in Argyll and Bute, and 'Cruachan' is the traditional war cry of the Campbell clan.
