German Democratic Republic flag, 1974
East German flag with yellow, red and black horizontal stripes with the GDR emblem of hammer and a compass within a ring of rye in the centre.
This flag was collected from outside the Soviet Military Cemetery at Treptow Park in East Berlin, immediately prior to the annual National Day parade of the GDR on 7 October, by General Peter Williams while serving as the battalion Intelligence Officer of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, based in Wavell Barracks, Spandau.
