The 19th Infantry Brigade was formed during World War One (1914-1918). It was raised again in 1938 and served throughout World War Two (1939-1945). It was re-named 19 Light Brigade in 2005. it deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 (as part of Operation HERRICK 10). It was disbanded in 2013 under Army 2020.
The Brigade insignia was designed by Major F W E Fursdon basing it on the design of the 3rd Infantry Division (of which the Brigade was part), the black panther used to symbolise alertness. The model for the original panther was Bagheera from the Disney film, 'The Jungle Book'.
