Formation badge, 4th Armoured Brigade patch, 2006 (c)
Rectangular patch badge with black jerboa, or 'desert rat', on a desert yellow ground.
The brigade's nickname is 'The Black Rats'. This badge is a variation of the 'desert rat' badge of the 7th Armoured Division, which was the parent formation of the 4th Armoured Brigade. It became the 4th Mechanised Brigade in 2007 but continued to wear this badge to retain the unit's heritage. A subsequent reorganisation in 2014 saw the Brigade become part of the 4th Infantry Brigade and HQ North East, the badge however has continued to be worn as the new formation.
