Formation badge, 1 Armoured Division, subdued variant, 1993 onwards
Triangular, woven, olive green patch badge with black rhinoceros charging to right, at the centre, with black edging.
Originally created in 1937 as a mobile division, the 1st Armoured saw extensive service during World War Two (1939-1945). Disbanded in 1945, it was re-established in 1960, based in Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine, where it existed until 1992. It was reformed in 1993 from the 4th Armoured Division and served in Bosnia and the Persian Gulf. It was redesignated 1st (UK) Division in July 2014.
The divisional badge dates from 1983 combining the red triangular spearhead badge of the 1st Infantry Division with the charging rhinoceros of the 1st Armoured Division which was used during World War Two.
