The Small Arms School Corps was formed in 1853 by Lord Hardinge, a politician and veteran of the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and Waterloo campaign (1815). Originally named the School of Musketry the small corps of volunteers drawn from across the Armed Forces now provides specialist support for weapons trainers in the Army. It aims to improve efficiency by maintaining and enhancing operational training in the use of small arms and support weapons.
