Tactical recognition flash, King Olav's Company, Green Howards (Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment), 1991 (c), King Harald's Company, Green Howards (Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment), 2006 (c)
Rectangular embroidered patch, with a gold Norwegian crown over a monogram for for King Harald V of Norway (1937-), the letter 'H' with the number '5', on a maroon background.
This badge was worn on a square, green tactical recognition flash badge, on the upper right arm.
In 1942, during World War Two (1939-1945), Queen Alexandra's son-in-law King Haakon VII of Norway became the Green Howards' Colonel-in-chief. His successors to the Norwegian throne, King Olav V and King Harald V, continued this family tradition.
Each year the companies of the Green Howards would compete in sport and military skills tests, the winning company would then be named after the Commander-in-Chief and would be eligible to wear this badge. This tradition was continued by King Olav's son, King Harald until the regiment was disbanded in 2006.
