Susan Ridge worked as a solicitor in Wales, before joining the Army in 1992. She served as a captain in the Army Legal Services branch of the Adjutant General's Corps and quickly rose through the ranks.
In 2015, she was promoted major general, becoming the first woman to hold that rank in the Army, and appointed Director General of the Army Legal Services. Major General Ridge retired from the British Army in 2019.
From a collection of 200 A3 portrait photographs from the 'Soldiery' exhibition and book by Rory Lewis, winner of the Portrait of Britain award 2017, 2018 and 2019. As a project, 'Soldiery' featured leaders and soldiers from a range of iconic regiments, capturing the evolving face of the 21st century British Army.
