Sports medal awarded to Private Mangold, The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own), 1927

Mangold received this medal for coming fourth in the 'C' Company three miles race. Such sporting contests strengthened the ties between troops and fostered faith in the regiment or corps. They also reinforced group identity and made soldiers ready to serve a shared cause, even in the most difficult circumstances.
