Peter Steinson was born in Scotland in 1799, the son or James Stenson. He joined the 18th Madras Native Infantry of the East India Company in 1820. He served in the First Burma War of 1824-1826, and worked his way up through the ranks to lieutenant colonel by 1847. He retired in 1849 and died in 1851.
