The officer himself is unknown but the reverse of the photograph is inscribed, 'Uncle Harold'. The subject is wearing his full dress uniform with a blue swan feather plume and a silver gilt helmet plate on his chapka helmet.
The City of London Imperial Yeomanry (Rough Riders) was a Yeomanry unit formed in 1901. The Rough Riders saw service in South Africa during the Boer War (1899-1902) and went on to serve in both World Wars.
