Mortar bomb used as a training aid, 2017 (c)

This is probably an Islamic State Forces mortar bomb, that was subsequently recovered, rendered safe and used in training, in the training camps in Besmaya, Taji or Erbil, Iraq.

During Operation SHADER 5, the 2 Mercian Battle Group provided Counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device), Infantry and Medical training to the Iraqi and Kurdish Security Forces, in order to enhance their capability to defeat the Islamic State Forces.
