Cap badge, The Royal Irish Regiment, 2019 (c)
This regiment was formed in 1992 by the amalgamation of the Royal Irish Rangers and the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR). Despite its name, it has no connection with the Royal Irish Regiment that disbanded in 1922, following Irish independence.
It has served on several British Army deployments, including the recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Its soldiers are recruited from across the island of Ireland, all parts of the United Kingdom and beyond.
