Bayonet training, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, 2020

Pen and ink and watercolour by George Butler, 2020.

One of ten drawings recording the Army's contribution to the management of the COVID-19 pandemic as part of Operation RESCRIPT, 2020.

The scenes that George Butler sketched of life in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst during the COVID-19 crisis showed that the training of cadets was continuing as usual but with subtle changes to accommodate social distancing. These Senior Term cadets were outside, in the Wishstream, being trained to use bayonets. With loud music blaring out, they were stabbing mannequins as part of their weapons training.
