Chinese Labour Corps wheelbarrow used on the Western Front, 1916 (c)

This wheelbarrow was used by Chinese labourers of the Army Service Corps Labour Companies to carry supplies and ammunition on the Western Front. In China, wheelbarrows like this were used to carry all sorts of goods as well as passengers. By the end of 1917 there were 50,000 Chinese workers in France, rising to 96,000 by August 1918.
