Lady Nicolls, Wife of Major-General Sir Jaspar Nicolls KCB, 1827 (c)

This half-length portrait of Lady Nicolls (1783-1844) in a blue velvet dress and hat is a companion to the portrait of the sitter's husband (NAM. 1962-10-178). Lady Nicolls died on 2 April 1844 in Rome while on her way back to Britain from India. Her husband was commander-in-chief in India from 1839 until 1843.
