Militia or Marine Pattern .78 inch flintlock musket, 1759

The need for a cheap musket to arm the marines and militia led to the adoption of this firearm in 1756 (the design was upgraded in 1759). It retained the basic 'Brown Bess' musket form, but had a reduced barrel of 42 inches. It also omitted the nose cap, tail pipe and escutcheon of the standard 'Brown Bess'.
