Formation badge, Sussex and Surrey District (South Eastern Command), 1940 (c)

Rectangular cotton printed badge, with the head of a black wolf, with open mouth showing a bright red tongue, set in a pale green or blue oval, bordered with yellow.

The design commemorates 'Woolf Force', a striking force maintained by 1st Canadian Corps when in the Sussex and Surrey area. The Sussex and Surrey District was formed to administer the area of South Eastern Command which was vacated by the Canadians, and had its HQ in Haywards Heath.

This badge in particular was adopted in 1943 when the Canadian Corps, previously the Corps District Command, left to take up an operational role with 21 Army Group.
